Clothes sizes: US v. France

BufferShare

As many countries, France has developed its own sizing system for clothes, which corresponds to the size of the various items in centimeters, but American sizes such as S M L XL etc… are commonly used.

Here are tables for men and women’s sizes for tops, bottoms, and shoes… with the corresponding US sizes.

Men’s

When it comes to tops (shirts, t-shirts, sweaters, etc.), France, unfortunately, uses several systems. Most stores, especially international ones, will use the US system (left column); however, the sizes are a little different. A t-shirt labeled as S in North America would be an M in France (middle left column).

T-shirts:

Some stores still use numbers, which correspond to the chest size in centimeters (middle column), yet other stores use a system of numbers, which go from 1 to 7 (right column), but those are less and less used, and if they are, often feature the S M L XL… charts as well.
