Movie Translations Gone Wrong
Aug 11th, 2009 | By Marc | Category: English
There are numerous good movies out there. However, language seems to get in the way when it comes to translating them. Naturally, it is not always possible to perfectly translate a quote, or even a movie title, but below are the worst English to German movie translations. Each example shows the film’s original English title and the direct translation of the German names:
| Die Hard | Die Slowly |
| Airplane | The Unbelievable Trip In A Wacky Aeroplane |
| K9 | My Partner with the cold Snout |
| Return to Me | Return to You |
| Dragnet | Floppy Coppers don’t bite |
Obviously, there was some lack of communication here, so much so that it is possible for a movie name to mean an entirely different thing in the translated title. Let’s hope for better times in the movie translation business!
