Swedish Superheroes

This took me a while to conjure up. I tell you, it wasn’t easy. At first I thought,“This is going to be the easiest thing in the world”. We have so many superheroes in Sweden. Challenge: name one.
So I did. I named many. Then it hit me like a stale lollipop falling from the ceiling on a Tuesday afternoon... all the superheroes I thought of as Swedish growing up have been the same international ones you find in any country. I was at a loss.
However, in 1997 a new hero was born. His name was Kenny Starfighter from the planet Mylta. The low budget six episode TV series was a fantastic success. So much in fact that it has been shown several times since. The show has a huge fan base and has earned cult status among the 60’s through 80’s generations. As proof of how popular the show still is, March 25 this year the prequel movie “Kenny Begins” will open in cinemas.
The series and the movie both are comedies playing on the Sci-Fi and hero genres. It is not totally unlike the Mel Brooks movie Spaceballs. If you ever get the chance and you haven’t seen the Kenny Starfighter series it is well worth the watch. I can’t comment on the movie yet, but I will definitely be heading to see it.

Hey Christopher,
what about Lilli Langstrumpf ??? (or whatever you write it) Isnt she Swedish?
Hi Max,
Well yes. Lilli or Pippi does have special abilities because she is super strong. However she doesn’t really fit into the “hero” category. I guess it would depend on your definition really, but along the lines of The Phantom, Punisher, Batman or many of the other caped crusaders Lilli (Pippi) is sort of an off fit.
