Speaking for myself, I am a huge fan of American TV Series and I watch them in original version with French subtitles first, then understanding the episode without subtitles. This is one thing I am very proud of (I am not saying that I could get the Matrix trilogy but I am working on it:)

This article is based on my experience of learning a new language in Hamburg.
It´s hard to believe that I have been living in Germany for 3 months. Time flies! and I can definitely assume that I love to live in Hamburg. My experience here so far is awesome and challenging in a way that connects a new language, new culture, and new way of life. Although the winter was too long, now the weather is getting warmer and I am really excited about hanging out in the city and put into practice what I´ve learned at my German course.

The linguists and psychologists still continue this perennial discussion: whether people are born with the certain abilities to learn a language or they acquire them on their life path through toil and persistence. All the research work doesn’t give the accurate results because it is hard to distinguish a boundary between physical and psychological. As it is the typical case in psychology science…
Personally, I think that if one is determined enough to achieve a goal he has set he can take on the world. Although there are some abilities which will give you confidence to strive for a polyglot title if you are lucky enough to have them. Or a little (!) excuse not to learn a bunch of languages if you lack them.

Лингвисты и психологи до сих пор продолжают извечную дискуссию: рождаются ли люди уже с определёнными способностями к изучению языков или они приобретаются на жизненном пути с помощью тяжелого труда и упорства? Все исследования не дают точного результата, так как очень трудно определить, где лежит грань между физиологическим и психологическим. И это так типично для психологических наук…
Лично я считаю, что если человек обладает достаточным упорством в достижении поставленной цели, то он может и горы свернуть. Хотя есть ряд способностей, которые позволят Вам уверенно стремиться к званию полиглота, если Вы являетесь их счастливым обладателем. Или станут маленькой (!) отговоркой, чтобы не учить десяток языков.

Мы трудимся в поте лица , изучая языки и так усердно стараемся исписать как можно больше тетрадок правилами грамматики и исключениями в длинных таблицах, что забываем про цель нашей деятельности. Мы учим языки, чтобы эффективно общаться, понимать других и чтобы они нас понимали, чтобы выжить в другой культурной среде.

We sweat our guts out learning languages and try so hard to cover our notebooks in writings of grammar rules and exceptions in long tables that sometimes we forget the goal of it. We learn language to communicate efficiently, to understand and be understood in real life and to survive in a different cultural field.
