Beach getaway in Indonesia – where to go?

Here are five destinations to visit when you travel to Indonesia for a beach getaway. I will start the journey from the western part of the country to make it easier. So, shall we start with the list? 😉

1. Belitung
Located in the province of Bangka Belitung, nearby the Sumatra Island. The island received plenty of attention after the release of “Laskar Pelangi” movie, also known as “The Rainbow Troops” in English (featured in our TGIF article!). The island is widely known for its white sand beaches. Beside snorkeling and scuba diving, you can try island hopping as another choice.

2. Thousand Islands
Known as “Pulau Seribu” in Indonesian, it is located just a boat ride away from northern area of Jakarta—such a perfect choice for people who are keen to get away from Jakarta’s immense amount of chaos. I would recommend you to visit Tidung, Sepa and Pramuka islands.

3. Bali
First of all, who does not know Bali? It is widely known as a destination to relax and to get loose at the same time.

Things you should do in Bali:
1) Do water sports in Nusa Dua
2) Indulge in delicious seafood in Jimbaran
3) Treat yourself to a traditional Balinese spa treatment
4) Party the night away in Legian and Kuta areas

4. Bunaken Island
The island is located in the province of North Sulawesi. The best way to get there is to go by plane to Manado, then take a chartered boat to the island. The surrounding area of Bunaken is known to be a very high level of biodiversity. Other than water sports activities, you also get to enjoy dolphin and whale watching.

5. Raja Ampat
It is located in Papua, in the very eastern part of the country. Famous for its spectacular view along with pristine and clear beaches, making it one of the famous destinations for water sports enthusiasts. The most sensible way to get there is to go by plane—numerous choices of flights are available from Jakarta and Bali. Book your flight to Sorong, then you would need to take a boat to Waisai (the capital ‘city’ of Raja Ampat). I have been told that the journey to get there is quite troublesome; however it is definitely worth it!
