The team for the important play-off games against Sweden

On the 14th and the 17th of November Denmark plays a couple of very important football matches against Sweden – the play-offs. The losing team will not travel to France to be a part of the European Championship starting in June next year. If you remember the last post called “Good to know about Danes”, you know that football is a huge thing in Denmark – and obviously, we do not want to lose against our neighbors and arch-enemies, Sweden.

So today the team was chosen by the national coach, Morten Olsen. The team will defend the Danish pride with the following 23 professional football names:

  • Kasper Schmeichel
  • Stephan Andersen
  • Jonas Lössl
  • Andreas Christensen
  • Daniel Agger
  • Daniel Wass
  • Jannik Vestergaard
  • Lars Jacobsen
  • Riza Durmisi
  • Simon Kjær
  • Christian Eriksen
  • Jakob Poulsen
  • Leon Andreasen
  • Pierre Emil Højbjerg
  • Pione Sisto
  • Thomas Kahlenberg
  • William Kvist
  • Martin Braithwaite
  • Michael Krohn-Dehli
  • Nicklad Bendtner
  • Nicolai Jørgensen
  • Viktor Fischer
  • Yussuf Poulsen

Kasper Schmeichel is the son of Peter Schmeichel, who was a part of the Danish team, when Denmark beat Germany 2-0 in the final in 1992 – so I am hoping for the same result for this Championship as back then.

Most of the players are well-known names, but still there are a few surprises. Andreas Christensen from Mönchengladbach, Leon Andreasen from Hannover and Viktor Fischer from Ajax are showing great results at the time, and Fischer is mentioned as a joker for the Danish offensive.

Go Denmark!
