Today we are going to talk about tecktonik. Tecktonic is a dance, born in France in the beginning of the 21st century, which has gained momentum for the past few years, and is now seen not only in France, but in parts of Europe, and even in North America. It is usually danced in clubs, but can sometimes be seen performed by dancers on the streets, or among friends.
This dance is derived from several styles, including hardstyle and jumpstyle, which come from both Belgium and the Netherlands. It started in 2002 in a French club near Paris, the “Metropolis”, which offered “tecktonik killer” themed nights. Seeing how popular it was, the creators decided to trademark the concept and the name, preventing other clubs from using it.
But the real reason why this style picked up is the use by dancers and fans alike of community video platforms such as YouTube to broadcast this dance to the world. As for the dance itself, I myself find it quite peculiar, and wouldn’t ever imagine dancing it… I’ve seen several people dance it before, and I have to say it doesn’t look like any other dance moves you’ve seen before… But well it is undeniable that many people like it, and it doesn’t seem to be a downwards trend. So check the video below, it’ll give you an idea of what I am talking about.
