We got the world – Swedish female music artists to listen to

Sweden is quite well-known for its musical exports, you might recognize ABBA, Robyn, Avicii and the now retired DJ group Swedish House Mafia? The Swedish music industry is one of the largest based per capita. However, nowadays new names are taking over both the Swedish and international music market, and here are the top three female music names to keep an eye on in the near future.

Zara Larsson


When she was only 10 years old, Zara Larsson won the program Talang 2008 thanks to her unique and beautiful voice. She is now 17 years old and is signed by the record label TEN Music Group and has released her first album “1”, and also the hits “Uncover”, “Rooftop”, “Lush Life” and most recently “Never Forget You” together with the British artist MNEK. Both “Lush Life” and “Never Forget You” has been on the top charts in Sweden, Denmark and Norway for a longer period of time.

Zara is also known for her feminist statements and opinions on various issues and she is, despite her young age, a very engaged and outspoken feminist. Around a year ago she received a lot of attention both in Sweden and the US when she started a discussion about the usage of condoms.

Seinabo Sey

Seinabo Sey is primarily known for her song “Younger”, on which the Norwegian artist Kygo later did a remix which became famous worldwide. Her father was a well-known Gambian musician so she grew up loving music. She has an incredible voice and her music is often described as a mix of soul and pop. Like her younger colleague Zara Larsson, Seinabo also takes stance on other subjects besides the music – mostly in areas such as weight and skin color. On October 23, 2015 she will release her first full length album “Pretend”.

Icona Pop

Icona Pop is a duo consisting of Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt and they have been active since 2009. Their career began with mega-hit “I Love It”, which sold over 2 million copies in the US. Their debut album “Icona Pop” was released in 2013 and has sold gold in the US and platinum in Germany. The duo have also released the singles “Manners,” “Nights Like This” and “We Got The World” which has become very popular around the world.
